Take Two and Call Me in the Morning

On Monday, these weren't the most comforting words from the Dr. after Emma had run 103 degree fever since Sunday morning. No strep, no flu. Just a virus.  Nevertheless, we came home and began a strict regime alternating Tylenol and Motrin every three hours--and disinfecting every time in between.

After two more days of 102+ temps, 4 bed changes (mine and hers), 6 new t-shirts (and 1 new dress shirt for Jason), 3 boxes of kleenex, 2 cans of lysol, 1 half eaten popsicle and apx. 12 loads of laundry later, my "I never stop for anything" angel looked like this laying in my bed.

Convinced we had received a false negative on either the rapid strep test or flu swab, we headed back to the Dr. this morning. The verdict?  Adenovirus with a compounding ear infection.  What is Adenovirus you ask?  Of course my extensive Mom experience and medical knowledge (aka Google) flashed me the symptoms and potential complications, one of which is commonly ear infections.   Read more here.  I am now convinced that Drs. are making up new illnesses everyday.

After a quick trip to Publix for our free amoxicillin, my lifeless 2 year old fell fast asleep in the car on the 6 block ride home.  She opened her mouth (but not her eyes) for the first dose of medicine, more tylenol, a few bites of bread, and a few sips of juice and has been asleep in her crib ever since.

So, if I've been a bit out of touch this week--my sincere apologies! I can honestly say, this is the SICKEST I've ever seen Emma.  Now, if we can get her to turn a corner, and if No. 2, me, and Jason, can just avoid contamination, we'll be ready to return to life as we know it hopefully by the weekend!!!

Be back soon!
